Looks interesting…

especially in a revealyng close-up

"my boss is demented "

No, not _my_ boss, really but I’ve heard this story from a native american friend who started teaching a new group – a team of clerks and their supervisor.

He asked each of them to say something about one of the others and everything went fine until one of the ladies said:
“And he is very dement…ing” pointing at the supervisor.
Now my friend, being a good teacher shot a quick hint before he could even think about it.
“-ed”
“Yes, he is demented” the girl corrected herself
“Ummm… he does not… look… demented” the teacher tried to smooth things down sensing the coming storm
“Oh yes, but I am demented” asserted the supervisor himself

What else could they have done not really aware of the difference between “dement” and “demand”.

Re: Question

Oh, that’s just one of those sayings that we also have in Polish like
“life is brutal and full of zasadzkas” so you just treat it as a funny
warning against life in general. The interesting thing about it is the
“sucking” bit:

You can call someone a “sucker” if you think that “idiot” is to
strong, similar in offensive power to “loser”.

according to merriam-webster to suck (apart from the more common
meanings) can also be:

3 : to act in an obsequious (służalczy) manner;
*when they want votes, the candidates come sucking around— W. G. Hardy*
*he sucked up to the boss*

(slang) : to be objectionable or inadequate
*people who’ve seen the move say it sucks*
and this is the meanng from your saying
