spółki z półki

In one of my classes this week I was not able to quote from memory. So here it is: (based on my notes from dr Anna Jopek’s translation classes and her excellent book)

“spółki kapitałowe” in Poland subdivide into: (a) spółka z o.o. – limited liability company (Ltd.) and (b) spółka akcyjna – joint-stock company (JSC)

easy enough – and now the part I keep forgetting

spółka akcyjna niepubliczna – private joint-stock company
spółka notowana na giełdzie (publiczna) – public limited company

moreover:

common law system takes different criteria for division – there would be private (nie notowane na giełdzie) and public (giełdowe) companies with the following acronyms (according to jurisdiction). For private ones: Co. Ltd (private company limited by shares) – UK, Pty Ltd (proprietary limited liability company) – Canada, Pty Co. Ltd (proprietary limited liability company) – Australia.
Public companies would use PLC (public limited) in UK; Inc, Corp or Ltd in Canada and Co. Ltd or LIMITED in Australia.
